24th: Its the day after the ABSA L'atelier opening and I can't help but wonder what the cleaners were thinking about as they looked down upon us from the offices above the atrium?
I have to admit though that soon after arriving I was wondering why I was there. To support my peers? I would love to but I knew hardly anyone there. To see who won? Yes. To applaud who won? Perhaps - depends. To moan about who won? Yes and no in equal measure. For the food and wine? Yes. I have to be honest I found the whole experience bizarre and unfulfilling.
After this years experience though, I have decided that if I ever get into the finals of any competition again, I shall be sending a stuntdouble in my place.
22nd: Got a big fat blob for my efforts for this years Sasol New Signatures. Judges didn't like Helgas sleek new look (see left) - had she lost too much weight?
Nor did they like my blockbuster video effort. To be honest I think it deserved a place purely on the sublime moment of timing that I benifited from. As I was filming one of the scenes an Ice cream van drove by. And so I was provided with an instant and soundtrack which proved to be quite appropriate. What more could you ask for?
15th: After winning an award for last years effort (The Judgement) I have decided to try something different for this years Sasol New Signatures.
The reason for this:
not wanting to rest on ones laurels. To be honest there are questions of should I try something new. There is always that worry that because I have successfully submitted my Helga photographs to a number of these competitions, the judges will start to stop seeing each photograph as something in its own right and the thought might be 'oh its another one of these' and walk straight past. So for this years submission I have entered into the world of video.
8th 2009: How many years have I being doing this? A first today. Put the fix in first. The result you can see on the left. Muppet. Which was just spledid as I had to ask my clients (a local Guitar duo - Ch2) to come back. Thankfully they were cool about it.
